Questions to ask when choosing an NDIS provider
The right questions can quickly reveal whether an NDIS provider is a good fit. Here is a practical checklist to take into your first conversation.

Choosing an NDIS provider is a big decision — you are inviting an organisation into your routine, your home and sometimes your most personal moments. Asking direct questions early saves awkward conversations later. This article offers a starting checklist; adapt it to what matters most to you.
Questions about the people
- Will I have regular workers, or a changing roster?
- What say do I have in who supports me?
- What training and screening do your workers complete?
- What happens if a worker and I are not a good match?
Questions about flexibility
- How much notice do you need to change a shift?
- Can supports flex up or down as my needs change?
- Do you deliver services in my suburb, and at the times I need?
Questions about money and agreements
Ask for a written service agreement before anything starts, and make sure you understand cancellation terms, how invoices are raised and what happens to your funding if you pause services. Pricing rules are set at a government level and change periodically, so check the latest government guidance on what providers can charge.
Trust your impressions
Notice how the provider treats you during the sales conversation. Do they listen more than they talk? Do they answer plainly or dodge? A provider who is patient and clear before you sign is more likely to be patient and clear afterwards.
You are never locked in. If a provider stops being the right fit, you can raise concerns, renegotiate or move on — our guide to switching providers covers how.
